Singer Likely To Cancel The Magneto Origin Movie![]()
X-Men fans everywhere have probably been rejoicing lately, with the news that Bryan Singer would return to the franchise to direct X-Men: First Class, an origin story about the friendship between Magneto and Professor Xavier. But will everyone be so excited when they realize we'll get one less X-Men movie as a result?
Talking to THR, Singer admitted something that seems obvious in retrospect-- a story about young Magneto and Professor X probably means a Magneto origin story isn't happening. Singer explains, "This story would probably utilize some of the Magneto story because it deals with a young Magneto, so it might supersede that because this would explore that relationship between a young energetic professor and a disenfranchised victim of the Holocaust." Given how badly the Wolverine origin story turned out, it's probably not too great a loss that the Magneto movie won't happen. Just as Logan wasn't all that interesting without Cyclops to spar with and Rogue to protect, Magneto probably wouldn't be worth watching without his enemy Professor X. Maybe I'm overly hopeful, but this seems like the first signal of Singer returning to put this whole franchise back on the rails. Let's see where he takes it from here. |
