Singer Wants Batman Vs Superman![]()
With Superman Returns well past the $100 million mark domestically and fast on its way to easily recouping its budget, a sequel is almost assured. Bryan Singer has been adamant about wanting to do more, and with the franchise making money, Warner Bros is likely to be happy to continue the adventures of Clark Kent.
So what form will the sequel take? Well, those old rumors about a Superman vs. Batman movie have surface again, only this time they’re coming from a pretty reliable source: Bryan Singer himself. MovieHole has dug up an interview Singer gave to MTV in which he expresses interest in resurrecting the team-up project first put in motion several years ago by Wolfgang Peterson, before spiraling down into development hell. “I've thought about it for a long time — even a longer time ago, actually,” he says. Bryan is interested in exploring DC’s biggest heroes together, but not yet. “I think Superman needs to have his own movies for a little while before that happens.” Singer is interested, but it sounds like something he hasn’t really thought out yet. “I don't know who would be the villain. I guess Batman would be the villain, but then he can't be too bad, because he is Batman,” he admits. For now, this is pretty far off. As MovieHole points out in their piece, it’s probably something better suited as a way to re-energize fans after the current Batman and Superman franchises have already run their course. At least that would be better than forcing Superman to co-star opposite Dave Chappelle. Though I still say that Richard Pryor’s moneymaking scheme from Superman III could really work. If it does happen, odds are Christian Bale wouldn’t be interested. Brandon Routh too seems a little hesitant to be involved in it. “I don't think we should go toe-to-toe, unless one of us is deranged somehow by some mind-altering drug," he laughed. "We shouldn't be fighting each other; we should be combining forces,” he says speaking as if he really is Superman. Don’t expect this movie to happen any time soon, but it’s nice to know the idea is out there swimming around in Singer’s head. If it ever does happen, he’s the man for the job. |
