Singer Wants To Do Star Trek![]()
Star Trek is dead. Face it. Paramount keeps talking about plans to make another, but the last movie flopped and no one is interested. Rick Berman has utterly killed it, and it’d take something huge to bring it back. Or maybe something super? How about Bryan Singer?
In an interview with IESB, director Bryan Singer revealed that not only is he a big nerd, but he’d like to take a shot at making a Star Trek movie! . “We’re huge Trekkies” he says, speaking not in the royal we, but of himself and his friend. Apparently, Singer even did a cameo in the last Star Trek film, ‘Nemesis’. How did I miss that? Singer says the idea of doing a Star Trek film is something that he’s talked about with his friends for a long time. If he were ever able to do it, his movie would be a “longer story”. It’ll be “big, very big” he says. Bryan Singer is of course rather busy at the moment finishing Superman Returns and after that he’s got Logan’s Run still on the horizon (he’s keeping the palm crystals. But once Logan’s Run is done… well Paramount would be insane not to take a shot at getting him to direct Star Trek. Throw money at him, give him total creative control, throw Berman off a balcony. If he wants to do it, and Paramount doesn’t make a pitch to him in which they offer to give him anything he wants, then they’re complete fools. Yet, who knows if he’ll have time. Singer also said in the interview that he’s open to doing another X-Men movie still too. If Ratner ruins the franchise, he may be the only thing able to bring it back. Let’s not forget potential Superman sequels either. Though oddly enough, in the IESB interview, Bryan doesn’t sound all that interested in doing more Superman. He says there are elements in there that “others” could use to make more movies. Not himself. So look, it’s just idle speculation, but to have a big time director like Bryan Singer come out and say he wants to do a Star Trek movie, well that at least gives Trekkers a little hope. That’s more than we’ve had in a long, long time. Of course, it's always possible that it's not so much Star Trek that he's interested in, but the newly outed Mr. Sulu. He's one sexy Asian American. |
