Singer off Superman: Man of Steel![]()
Batman Begins and Casino Royale have a lot to answer for in the land of Hollywood. Their runaway success have now convinced studio execs that the only way to successfully continue any franchise is to reboot it, no matter how recently or well received your last installment was. Proving that they are the exception to the quality rule, for every Batman Begins it feels like there are two Incredible Hulks; shallow, effects heavy brainless “romps”.
Bryan Singer's Superman Returns has fallen victim to the worst kind of revisionist history in recent times, to the point where facts fall out of people's heads in order to justify decisions. Superman Returns was well received critically. Superman Returns made money (Note to Warners; the money you spent between 1991 and 2003 failing to get Superman off the ground isn't Bryan Singer's tab). Speak to certain people out there, however and they will tell you it was a critical failure and tanked. Because most people out there are lazy and the certain people in question have sway, most people will simply believe this nonsense. Now the rumor that Bryan Singer has been given the boot for another Superman movie has all but been confirmed by the man himself. While being interviewed by UGO about upcoming movie Valkyrie, Singer was pressed for some information on his involvement in the talk of another new Superman movie. Despite valiantly trying to stay diplomatic over the whole thing, Singer eventually said, “I am not officially involved in the talk, no.” To be fair, he also said he was not "divorced from Superman at this point." But it still doesn't look good. So there you have it. We already have had one bad Superman movie in the last 3 years. It was called Hancock. Please Warner Brothers, make some intelligent decisions over this thing before it becomes another shallow, forgettable, studio directed mess like Incredible Hulk. Kicking Bryan Singer off one superhero franchise already managed to turn it in to a train-wreck. Brett Ratner for Superman: Man of Steel, anyone? He was once in the running after all for Superman Returns. Never mind revisionist history, how about history repeating? |
