I was never a fan of the The X-Files back in its 90s heyday, so I’m not really the target audience for the upcoming X-Files: I Want to Believe. But all the same, I’m starting to think that no one has the slightest interest in this movie. Aside from a handful of posters on the subway, I’ve seen virtually no promotion for it. Where are all the magazine articles talking about the return of Mulder and Scully? Where is the excitement from the youth? Oh, that’s right—the youth were all watching Barney when The X-Files was last popular.
You’d think the PR people behind this movie might try to jazz up the interest factor by releasing stills or trailers or some promotional material that gave us an idea of what the movie is actually about. Come on, it’s 2008! Only Lost is allowed to torment us with mysteries these days. But, alas, based on the six new stills available at Rope of Silicon, that’s not really in the cards. The photos feature Mulder and Scully, yes, but they’re so generic that it’s possible to tell what’s going on, except that it’s very serious. Kind of like the promo shots for The Happening a few weeks ago, pretty much all these are telling us is that the characters spend a lot of time staring sternly into space.
Yup, it’s pretty bad. Check out the images at Rope of Silicon and tell me if you are any more excited than you were 10 minutes ago. I have to say, the excitement for this movie is still not there for me. I want to believe in the power of summer blockbusters to be awesome, but X-Files, you might not be worth it.

That's funny, everyone I know is excited for this film. Although I agree with you whole-heartedly about the lack of promotion. I was hoping for a giant billboard in Times Square.
I respectfully disagree. Perhaps yes, Fox PR and Marketing Depts could be doing a MUCH better job at promoting the film (many fans would agree). However, you yourself state that you weren't a fan previously - so aren't you jumping the gun with an opinion based on very little information? And really - Lost? it's more convoluted and indirect than the X-files ever was in its heyday. Chris Carter and Co. don't want plot/spoilers to get out before they need to. So wait, see the movie, and then tell us about your level of excitement. Hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised.
I actually think Fox are playing on the fact that the fans will go crazy with what whatever info they get. However it's not enough! I'm a huge fan, I'll be there on opening night and I think the movie looks amazing from all the trailers, tv spots and photos but we want more. A hell of a lot more.
I'm glad they don't show anything. These days half the movies that come out have been spoiled to death on the internet. I'm glad I'm going to be able to watch this one without knowing anything.
Well I guess you were probably one of those who used to watch Barney so if you are mad because they are not making a Barney movie unlike you there are a lot of fans who are waiting for this movie, so before you throw in crap do some research and if you think this movie is a waste of time for the summer then dont watch it, nobody is forcing you to just avoid it and do something else with your time instead of writing this pathetic article.
