Snake Pliskin Dodges Brett Ratner![]()
I still don’t get why John Carpenter’s career is being picked apart for remake after remake, particularly when the remakes aren’t really showing any more promise than Carpenter’s original concepts. The latest of these is the most despicable, a remake of the classic Kurt Russell flick Escape from New York, with one of the worst possible people at the helm: Brett Ratner.
Well, it turns out there’s possible good news associated with this travesty of a picture. According to a loyal reader of their site, Ain’t It Cool News is reporting that Ratner isn’t involved with the remake after all. Apparently the reader asked the would-be director about the picture at a recent achievement award presentation and Ratner said the remake is happening… just not with him. Frankly, that’s the best news this remake has had since it was initially announced. I’m not crazy about the remake in the first place – I just don’t see the purpose in it. If the movie has to be remade though, Ratner is not the right person to handle it. He’s already shown that he can’t handle other people’s franchises with other movies, like X-Men 3. If Hollywood is really this desperate for ideas, at least put someone with some skill at the helm. |
