Snow White and the Huntsman is the Universal Pictures contender in their Snow White showdown against Relativity's Mirror Mirror. And like its cool and collected take on the iconic pale princess, their marketing approach has been sly over showy. With Relativity's March release date fast approaching, Mirror Mirror marketing has been kicked into overdrive, pumping out spirited trailers and behind-the-scenes vids they hope to go viral. Alternately, Universal's approach has been more subdued, staggering images from the film on their Twitter and Facebook fans feeds.

The latest images from this scene-stealing campaign features Snow White and the Huntsman's beautiful royals. First up is Sam Claflin (Pillars of Earth, Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides) who plays Prince William, the handsome young man who becomes enchanted with Kristen Stewart's warrior-princess. At every turn Universal's been careful to display director Rupert Sanders' break from Disney's established Snow White aesthetic. Here rather than being a smiling and dashing Disney prince, Claflin draped in heavy leather garbs and sporting some serious face-scruff broods. And while some Disney princes (Beast, Aladdin) were known for brooding, it was never in attire so dull and facial hair so unkempt.

The Facebook caption warns, "The Prince will take on evil to save Snow White." Bummer. I thought this time round Snow White would be doing some saving of her own.

Next up is a fresh look at Charlize Theron as the evil queen, who the trailer tells us loves milk baths and loathes Snow White. Here she appears to be looking into her magical mirror, receiving distressing news. Or perhaps she's discovered a blemish!

The caption includes a quote from this gorgeous queen of mean, "It once pained me to know I am the cause of such despair." Having been a huge fan of Theron's fearless mean girl-grown-meaner in the pitch black comedy Young Adult, I'm pumped to see what she'll do with a character so much crueler and so much more vain. It should be some wicked fun.

Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1st. More on the film can be found in our Blend Film Database.
