Soderbergh Wants To Put A Musical Cleopatra In Your Face Here I am, right in the middle of covering news about a 3D movie, when news about another 3D movie comes breaking out. If anybody has any question about 3D really being the direction movie making is going, this should definitely be an answer, especially considering this isn’t some gimmicky 3D movie, but potentially the highest profile 3D movie to date.

Variety reports that Steven Soderbergh (Che, Ocean’s Eleven) will direct a - get this - 3D rock ‘n’ roll musical about Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile. Seriously, if this was April I would think someone was pulling my leg. A 3D rock ‘n’ roll musical?

Again putting some credit to this being something more than just a gimmicky film, Soderbergh is reportedly going after Catherine Zeta-Jones as the Egyptian queen Cleopatra, and Hugh Jackman to play the romantic interest, Marc Antony. Both actors have proven their musical chops previously, with Zeta-Jones in Chicago and Jackman winning quite a bit of acclaim on stage.

The music for the picture is coming from indie rock band Guided By Voices. Former bass player for the band, James Greer, is also the man behind the script for the project.
