Soderbergh's Knockout Gets Distribution![]()
Steven Soderbergh is one of the biggest hit or miss filmmakers in Hollywood. The thing is, it’s almost fair to grade him on curve considering he does his best to be innovative with his material. Whether it’s a six-hour Che Guevara epic released in a climate that isn’t exactly communist-friendly or simultaneously releasing a film in the theatres, on DVD, and On Demand, Soderbergh is constantly trying to change the industry, so a subpar movie can be forgiven.
And even though Soderbergh had a bit of bad luck with Moneyball his next movie, Knockout, has already officially been picked up by Lionsgate. According to Variety, the film will star martial arts fighter Gina Carano and will be a spy thriller “in the vein of La Femme Nikita.” For those who never saw the show, it followed a homeless girl who was mistaken for a killer by a super secret counter-terrorist organization. Thinking she would be a great fit for their company, they train her and force her to carry out their psycho missions. I haven’t had a chance to check out The Informant!, but after reading boss man Josh Tyler’s review, it doesn’t sound like it’ll be the Ocean’s 11 influenced movie that I’d hoped it would be. Instead, it just sounds like a huge bummer. So here’s to hoping that Soderbergh has a good spy movie in him because if not, he’s going to have to start getting graded with all the normals again. |
