Sony Craves A Sasquatch Dumpling![]()
The rumor of Bigfoot has been a hot ticket item for gossip circles and geek clubs for several years. If you found footprints in the woods that could belong to the beast himself, would you try to cash in on the discovery? Of course, since making a fortune off minimal work is the job of everyone’s fantasies.
Zap2It reports that Sony BMG Music Entertainment (yes, they are financing movies now) has grabbed the domestic rights to The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang, a favorite at the Slamdance film festival. Tim Skousen, an assistant director on Napoleon Dynamite, wrote and directed the movie, which Sony is hoping will bring the same kind of cha-ching as that sleeper hit. The comedy is about a group of friends who stumble upon some huge footprints in the woods, and suspect they belong to Bigfoot. Two of them decide to seek a profit from what they found, but a few nearby redneck neighbors are trying to hatch a scheme themselves. The cast includes Jeremy Sumpter (Frailty), Justin Long (Waiting), Carl Weathers (Rocky) and Stephen Tobolowsky (Groundhog Day). On the recent acquisition, Jim Wilson of Sony BMG says, ”The incredible team behind 'The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang' makes it a perfect film for our audience and a natural to succeed in the home entertainment market.” If it doesn't prove a hit, they can always wipe tears away with another Mariah Carey album. |
