Spider-Man 3 Already Breaking Records![]()
It doesn’t open here in America until Friday, but Spider-Man 3 is already breaking records. No, I’m not talking about how much it cost to make.
See, even though we don’t get to see Spidey for a few more days, he’s already swinging over in Asia. Spider-Man 3 opened in eight different Asian countries on Tuesday, and Variety says it broke box office records in each and every one of them. For instance in Japan, it made 415 million yen, beating Spider-Man 2’s previous opening day total of 410 million yen. In Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Phillippines it owns the biggest opening day record ever for any film. That list reads sort of like a who’s who of piracy doesn’t it? Meanwhile, here in the United States it’s set to break a record of a different kind. Spider-Man 3 is set to open with the widest release of any film here in the history of cinema. The previous champ was Shrek 2 with 4,163 theaters. Spider-Man 2 had 4,152. It looks like Spidey 3 will beat all of those figures. Now take all that in and add to it the news we brought you last week which said that in pre-sales Spider-Man 3 was selling three times faster than Spider-Man 2 and we may be looking at the new box office champ for biggest opening of all time. Look out Captain Jack, Spidey’s coming and he brought his impact web. |
