It's really happening! There's nothing we can do about it! Sony's been promising for years, and now they've confirmed that Spider-Man 4, despite being unwanted by pretty much everyone, will come to exist. The studio and Marvel Entertainment have set a release date of May 6, 2011 for the film, which means once again Spidey will have ruined your summer before Memorial Day.
Marvel made a bunch of release date announcements, actually, as reported in today's Variety. The Avengers, logically, is being pushed from July 2011 to May 4, 2012, given that a whole collection of that movie's characters won't have debuted yet. And two of the Avengers have had their dates shuffled as well, with Captain America moving from May 6 to July 22, 2011, and Thor jumping forward a year to June 17, 2011.
It's pretty exhausting looking at this list, and realizing the end of the glossy superhero movie is nowhere in sight. Will we really still be into superheroes in 2012, or will we have moved on to the next trend in movies, probably one that involves more half-naked chicks? Is there anyone who's not just a little wary about the bloated prospects of an Avengers movie? Or am I just being an annoying spoilsport about all this?
