Spider-Man Will Swing Again

By Rafe Telsch: 2007-04-20 23:19:25
Spider-Man Will Swing Again Spider-Man 3 hasn’t hit theaters yet but the buzz keeps coming about the franchises survival. All of the important parties seem to switch between being interested or disinterested faster than Spidey can swing from building to building. When we last tallied the votes, however, it appeared both Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire could possibly be persuaded to appear in another Spider-Man movie, provided director Sam Raimi is in charge.

Well, today Raimi made the important first step in moving forward with the Spider-Man franchise, Raimi announced that Sony Pictures is moving forward with not one, not two, but three more pictures, confirming the previous rumor that Sony was looking at a second trilogy for the web slinger.

According to Coming Soon, Raimi confirmed Spider-Man 4, 5, and 6, but denied any involvement with those pictures at this time. He hasn’t had time to think about being involved and says he doesn’t want to presume Sony would want him to direct… because when you’ve got a multi-million dollar franchise going, turning to the guy who helped build that is even a question.

Raimi hasn’t ruled out directing however, stating that it would be hard to say goodbye to Spidey but giving the all-too typical response that another sequel would need to have a good story to tell.

I’ve gone on record numerous times as saying the Spider-Man movies are my favorite comic book movies of all time. The idea that Raimi and company might be making more is incredibly exciting. Hell, even without Raimi they could be exciting, although the current cast and crew are a proven thing. Just don’t leave me hanging on Spider-Man 3 the way you did with the last picture. I don’t know if my geekiness can be kept waiting that long between movies again.
