MOVIE NEWS
Spielberg May Helm Matt Helm![]()
Steven Spielberg has so many pet projects, it’s ridiculous. In fact, I’d like to propose a boycott of all Spielberg film news until he releases that amazing sounding Abraham Lincoln bio with Liam Neeson. The boycott starts right after I finish this piece and ceases any time I have to write something else on Spielberg.
Added to the long list of movies that aren’t Lincoln is Matt Helm, a project that Spielberg and his DreamWorks studios had developed for years but lost to Paramount due to studio drama. It’s unclear at this point if Spielberg will direct (although it’s very possible), but it’s already been confirmed that he’s attached to produce along with red-hot writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. According to Variety, the movie would be based on the book series of the same name that follows a government agent whose mission is to take down other enemy agents. Simple enough, right? The books fittingly took place in the Cold War era, but the adaptation by Paul Attanasio approaches the series from a more modern, Bourney (totally just invented an adjective) sort of perspective. Next up for Spielberg is The Adventures of TinTin, which is still very hard to get excited for. Having never read the comic, I can’t see the appeal of a well-dressed Belgian with a cowlick and a lame looking dog as they look for stories to report on, but I just may not be sophisticated enough. To be honest, Spielberg’s recent flicks make it easy to become nostalgic for the days of 15 hour epics like Munich. UPDATE! New information has appeared which indicates Spielberg will not direct Matt Helm. Instead he'll produce. |
