Culturally we’re used to thinking of maternal instincts as a good thing. We fetishize the importance and purity of a mother’s love as a matter of course. But in these new clips from Splice the film seems to be making a pretty good case for how those same maternal instincts could get us all killed. Two scientists create a freak of nature, which goes on a killing spree. One, the male, wants to follow the rules, wants to kill it before any harm is done. The other, the female, let’s her maternal instincts runs amok and in the process unleashes a hideous freak on the world dooming us all to death by pointy tail.
