Splice's Ending Will Be Tweaked Before Release This Summer![]()
The funny thing about Sundance is that films can debut there to enormous buzz and acclaim, but then show up in theaters months later looking dramatically altered. Just last week we saw the release of Brooklyn's Finest, which bore a completely different ending than it did at Sundance. Now that same treatment will be done to Splice, the midnight horror movie that terrified audiences in Park City, and will be heading nationwide this summer.
But first, there will be some tweaks. Director Vincenzo Natali told Fangoria, "You’re going to see a slightly nipped-and-tucked version" before the movie's release from Warner Bros. He further explains: “I’m actually going into the editing room next week, and if they’re true to their word, it’s just going to be cosmetic. It really comes down to Joel. He loves the movie and actually enjoys the parts that would scare most producers away. He’s being very courageous releasing this. There are also a few things I’m changing after seeing the film with an audience. I believe what will come out of it will be a new and improved cut, but in essence, it’ll be the same film.” I wouldn't worry too much about this-- Joel Silver knew what he was doing when he picked up the film, and wants the essential weirdness that got people talking about it to begin with. Having not seen Splice I have no idea what changes might be in store, but still, don't ring the alarm just yet. |
