Sylvester Stallone is making a new career out of revisiting his old career. You know, the one where he was a relevant action star. Now he’s an irrelevant action star, revisiting the glory days when he was still relevant and everyone loved him. He’s already made old-age sequels to Rocky and Rambo, now he’s set his sites on sequelizing his rock climbing movie Cliffhanger. Remember it? Anyone?
The news comes from PR-Inside where they say Sony is in negotiations with him to revive his Cliffhanger character for a sequel called The Dam. I guess this time he’s climbing a man made structure? Or will there be some sort of white water rafting?
I barely remember it, but apparently the movie did make nearly $260 million. Of course most of that was overseas, will people will watch anything if it has big American macho movie star in it. Over here, we’re much more discerning and will only watch things with dancing in them.
In the original 1993 Cliffhanger movie, Stallone played Gabe Walker, a climber sent into the mountains to rescue a stranded group of people who are actually there looking for a suitcase full of cash. Gabe ends up facing off against John Lithgow, who is usually pretty fun to face off against, especially if you’re Bigfoot. It’s not exactly an iconic movie. I realize they’ve already made recent sequels from his two most iconic characters and are thus starting to run out of Stallone properties to cannibalize, but shouldn’t Cliffhanger be further down the list? Why not drag Wesley Snipes out of debtors prison and make a sequel to Demolition Man instead?

i never really liked the rocky movies (maybe cuz i never paid attention) but the new one rocked! At the very least the fight scene was awesome...
I watched all 3 rambo movies just so i could watch the 4th. And in all honestly the fourth was the best by far. Part 2 was very cool too. 3 was shitty and part 1 was awkward.
i definately loved cliffhanger and demolition man and i was wishing that he would bring them back (hey, Sly's done a very good job so far :o)
but i'm not sure if rushing him into writing new scripts is such a good idea
Wesley cant do a demolition man sequel because his character was shattered into a thousand pieces, idiot! Maybe you should do your research before making stupid suggestions. Stallone rocks!
Any movie that sly makes would be great
i hope he makes rambo 5 because there are to many questions to be answered like is he's father still alive and how much things have change and why not cobra 2 i think the first one was good and cliffhanger sequel way not
so keep up the good work sly keep making movies for your fans i me and the rest
I have always liked the vast majority of Stallone films and would hope he's not going to retire Rambo just yet. If nothing else, he can offer some political commentary regarding what this nation has been made to endure during the "leadership" of Bush and his cronies. I wasn't sure about the need for a sequel to this film, until I read about how much money the first one made. I don't know. I'd rather have a sequel to Nighthawks of Victory than this. Things could be worse, of course. You could be providing news that Stop or My Mother Will Shoot II, Rhinestone II or Oscar II was in the works.
Poor old Stallone man, that dude is pretty desperate he'll probably do anything to get his mojo going again!
Cliffhanger was a good film but like you say who remembers it??
We all know that in stallone's heart of hearts, he's just gonna end up doing half a dozen more Rambo films before he crashes and burns.
It's a shame as well because I genuinely think that FIRST BLOOD is a classic...all the rest are KAK!
