Sylvester Stallone’s Expendables is rapidly becoming a massive collection of action stars, promising to make the movie a huge event for action pictures. Sly himself, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, and Eric Roberts are but a small portion of the cast. In fact, the action veterans are so piled upon the project, The Expendables has a lot of potential for an actor who wants to break into the action film game. If you can get associated with this picture and this crowd, your career may be made.

That’s why I’m not surprised at the new names that are being tossed into the film. It appears Stallone is bringing in several figures form the world of Mixed Martial Arts and Ultimate Fighting Championship. Since I’m not much of a fan of MMA or UFC, these aren’t names I’m familiar with, but if The Expendables proves to be any good, this could be their ticket into familiarity beyond the fighting ring.

Moviehole reports that roles have been offered to the Brazillian twin brothers Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, better known in MMA as The Nogueira Brothers. Stallone has also expressed interest in Brazillian fighter Lyoto Carvahlo Machida, who carries quite an impressive UFC fighting record (again, I’m not familiar with it, but head over to their site to read about it).

I’m really psyched about The Expendables, and I suspect that, despite all the casting announcements, it’s going to wind up being one of those movies that’s so jam packed full of people that I forget some of them are in the movie until they show up on screen. While I may not recognize the names of these Brazillian fighters right now, who knows where this movie could take them.
