Stallone Pondering A Rambo Prequel?![]()
Most iconic characters are better off without letting us in on all the intimate details of their past. Darth Vader was a lot scarier before we knew about his origins as a petulant, lovesick teen. But Rambo, John Rambo, is a character who’s origins it might be worth exploring. In fact why haven’t we explored them? Stallone’s getting too old to play the character, in fact he’s already too old to play him and was probably too old when the last movie was made. Cast some young kid and let us know where JR got his start. Sign me up for a prequel. Sly, how about it?
The original Rambo tells AICN that he thinks the notion of doing a Rambo prequel is “worth pondering”. Whether that means he’s actually pondering it is unclear but hilariously he says, “it’s intriguing to find the whys and wherefores of how people have come to become what they are.” Coincidentally that’s also how my next door neighbor’s 8-year-old describes the Star Wars prequels. Ah Stallone, you’re so Stallone-like. Don’t change. But when we first meet John Rambo in First Blood he’s already a scarred Vietnam vet. Why not show us what happened to him in Vietnam? Make the ultimate Vietnam war movie, make Apocalypse Now! with freaking Rambo as its star. That could really work. |
