Star Trek Into Darkness Launches Two New Stills
It was almost exactly four years ago that a sequel to J.J. Abrams' Star Trek was announced to be in the works. At the time the reboot was still a couple months away from release, but Paramount and Bad Robot seemed to know the value of what they had made, charging Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof with script duties for the then-untitled sequel. It took a long, long time for the project to finally come together, with Abrams dedicating himself to Super 8 before jumping back into Gene Roddenberry's world.
But after an extended wait we are now in the home stretch. Star Trek Into Darkness is due out in theaters on May 17th, and the promotion is in full force. An exciting teaser was released earlier this month, and today, courtesy of the Star Trek app available for both iPhones and Droids, we have some brand new stills to add to our gallery.
In addition to the new image posted at the top of this page, featuring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto as James Kirk and Spock the app has also revealed a new look at Benedict Cumberbatch's mysterious villain. High res versions of the shots are expected to be online tomorrow.
Star Trek Into Darkness begins when Star Fleet is victim of a horrific terrorist attack that has sent shockwaves around the universe and left Earth in a state of crisis. With a personal vendetta, Captain Kirk and the Enterprise crew go on the hunt for the man they believe to be responsible, the villainous John Harrison (Cumberbatch). The sequel brings back most of the cast from the last film, including Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Bruce Greenwood, and introduces Alice Eve and Peter Weller into the rebooted Star Trek world.
