Star Trek Is The Most Pirated Film Of The Year![]()
Forget all the best and worst lists of the year; how about the most pirated film of the year? Even after the whole meltdown over the X-Men Origins: Wolverine leak in April, according to THR, the film only took the #9 spot on the list with 7.2 million estimated downloads.
Soaring above and beyond the lot to the #1 spot is Star Trek with 10.9 million downloads followed by Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with 10.6 million. The #3 spot belongs to Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla with 9.4 million downloads and the #4 spot to The Hangover with 9.1. Rounding out the top five is Twilight with 8.7 million downloads. Is it just me or does RocknRolla seem very out of place on this list? I would have thought all ten spots would belong to big releases. I can see how Twilight could sneak its way onto the charts, but RocknRolla? And what about State of Play? State of Play and RocknRolla are the only two films on the list that didn’t pass the $100 million mark at the worldwide box office. Could bootleg availability really have affected their theatrical performance? We really can’t even put the blame on particular distributors. Warner Bros. has the most on the list (RocknRolla, The Hangover and Harry Potter), but otherwise the results are unremarkable. |
