Fans may be worried about J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Trek movie deviating too far from known canon, but the writer/director is trying to make sure he pays tribute to the original series when he can. A small rumor from Trek Movie.com gives a hint about what to expect.
According to the rumor, the well known race of Tribbles will be putting in an appearance at some point during the Star Trek movie, possibly seen in a cage of some sort. Although a well-known part of Trek, Tribbles have only actually popped up in a few episodes, gaining the most acclaim for the least amount of screen time.
The little furball creatures are notorious for rapid reproduction and disliking Klingons. Knowing they will be in a cage makes me wonder if we won’t be seeing some Klingons in Abrams movie, something heretofore unknown (and still unknown, but the speculation is fun).

As far as paying "tribute to canon" goes for the new Star Trek Film, there is something much more important. What concerns many Star Trek fans is that no matter how Abrams wants to revive Trek, the show had a very important element that should be preserved - a social conscience. This is something that Abrams lacks in most (if not all) of his other projects. Specifically the "justification" of torture. Alias and Lost both feature heroic characters committing acts of torture which are "justified" in the story (as does MI:III). This has NO PLACE in Star Trek no matter how much Abrams want to "revise" the franchise. Keep true to the ideals of Star Trek! http://trekkies.againsttorture.com is sending that message to Abrams. Based on his track record, we feel he owes us a guarantee that he will not undermine the heart of Star Trek by continuing his practice of condoning morally reprehensible behavior. Please come and sign the Open Letter to Abram and CBS. Thank you.
