Star Trek XI Gets A Character It’s probably one of the most anticipated films outside of 2007. Will J.J. Abrams muck up thirty plus years of Star Trek with a new take on classic characters, or will he completely put off die-hard fans with a reinvention of the phaser?

Truth be told, there’s no way to know what’s going on since actual details have been sparse. We have rumors and speculation, but nothing official has really come down the information highway… until now.

J.J. Abrams recently told “Star Trek” magazine that he and the current team has massive respect for both the canon of Star Trek and the brand new audience. We’re not sure what that actually means, because many are afraid the canon will be shoved aside in favor of building a new audience. How Abrams can have respect for both is a little strange.

However, that’s not everything Abrams had to say. He also confirmed that James T. Kirk will appear in Star Trek XI! Okay, maybe that’s not really big news. After all, we’ve all pretty much known that for a while now. In fact, that was the second piece of news spread around after the news about Abrams producing and directing. It’s nice to have it confirmed finally.

The confirmation doesn’t really ease any concerns, and, truth be told, we’ll need to start hearing some casting before I’ll be even close to ready to pass any kind of judgment on the project. For now, we have a director and we know Kirk will be in the movie. Anything else is just speculation.
