Star Trek's Redesigned Enterprise Described! Great news for us Trekkies. The guys over at IESB have an informant who’s seen the new, redesigned version of the Enterprise being used for JJ Abrams’ Star Trek prequel, and despite rumors to the contrary it sounds like nothing has changed.

According to their scooper, they’ve kept the classic, iconic design of the original Enterprise, NCC-1701, no bloody A, B, C, or D, and only made very minor adjustments to it. The biggest difference they say is the ship’s skin, which has been given a “grittier metal texture.” I wonder if it’s something similar to the skin they used on the NX Enterprise used in the Enterprise television series? That would make sense, since the NX Enterprise predates the original one, and that would be a way to bridge the gap between TOS Enterprise and Captain Archer’s NX Enterprise. Of course I always sort of thought that gritty metal look of the NX Enterprise kind of sucked ass, so I sort of hope that’s not what we’re talking about.

But as long as they’re keeping the basic, iconic look of the old girl, I’m not going to complain. A few minor things like a slightly more textured hull we can live with. It even makes sense to do that. Just don’t mess with an icon guys. She’s the Enterprise. Screw the death of Spock. I cried when the Enterprise died in Star Trek III. Nice to see that, despite rumors to the contrary, she may be getting the respect she deserves.

IESB’s scooper also has some news about what they may have been shooting over at Vasquez Rocks. You’ll remember we reported last week that they’d be filming at that much-used, instantly recognizable, rock formation in California. Apparently they shot some sort of birth scene. IESB thinks maybe it’s the birth of Spock. That makes sense to me.
