We’re getting very close to having a completed cast list for Star Trek. We already know that Spock will be played by both Heroes star Zachary Quinto and classic Spock Leonard Nimoy. Zoe Saldana is confirmed as Uhura and Anton Yelchin is Pavel Checkov. Now, hot on the heels of a rumor here which says Abrams may have found his Captain Kirk, we have another contender for the part of Scotty. An official, full cast announcement cant’ be far off. I can’t wait to hear who’s playing Dr. McCoy.
For now, TrekMovie says Stargate: Atlantis star Paul McGillion may be in contention for the role of the Enterprise’s Chief Engineer. Apparently he’s already auditioned for the part, and it’s just a matter of waiting to see if he’s the lucky bastard who got it.
Personally, I doubt it. McGillion is 38 years old, and Abrams has made it pretty clear that he’s going with a younger cast. Granted, Scotty is supposed to be a little older than Kirk and some of the others, but if Kirk is 28 as has been suggested, then Scotty should be 30 or so, not 38.
Working in McGillion’s favor is that he’s already got a science fiction fanbase as part of that awful Stargate spinoff. So he’s used to putting up with geek conventions. He’s also endorsed by the son of James Doohan… for whatever that’s worth. Probably not much, this isn’t a political campaign after all. Who cares what Chris Doohan thinks. Get a job dude and stop glomming off your father’s legacy.

Dear Josh, For what it's worth, I have a very good job (not that I need one). Now, go to my website and buy some dilithium crystals (dilithiumcrystal.com) so I can feed my family.
I'll send you a free one if it will put you in a better mood. Chris Doohan
