Jason Statham is officially maybe going to be in a remake of Roger Corman’s 1975 movie Death Race 2000. Yahoo News has confirmed the story we brought you nearly a month ago here, and say he’s currently in talks for the lead in the film.
If he gets it, Jason Statham will officially be typecast as that karate guy who is in all those bad driving movies. A guy’s gotta have a niche I guess.
The 75’ version was set in a near future where hit and run driving has become a sport instead of a crime. Contestants race across the country trying to commit as many acts of vehicular homicide as possible, scoring points for running people down. The original starred David Carradine, who manages to avoid being typecast as a ku-fu car driver and instead ended up being typecast as a karate-kicking monk.
