I was hoping that, now that Anne Hathaway is getting attention as a Real Actress with her role in Rachel Getting Married, she would ditch the romantic comedies that made her famous and move on to some more serious stuff. Sadly, no such luck. Variety is reporting that Hathaway has signed on to The Opposite of Love, yet another adaptation of yet another chick lit novel-- though this one, apparently, doesn't have a pink cover. That's at least one thing in its favor.
In a little bit of a gender-role switcheroo, Hathaway will play a commitment-phobic attorney who turns down her boyfriend's proposal, and finds her life falling apart at the seams soon thereafter. No director or screenwriter or suitably bland male lead have yet signed on.

You don't understand, Anne is PERFECT for this role! This is one of my favorite novels; there's a lot of emotional depth to it and it is so different from other "romantic" novels and it really isn't too comedic. It's beautiful. Just give it a chance.
