New, good Sci-Fi is hard to come by these days. Computer-generated effects and stale, clichéd ideas have turned the once breathtaking, even thoughtful genre into a joke. Unfortunately, Arena doesn't sound like it's going to do cinematic Sci-Fi any favors. Written by first-timers Toby Wagstaff and Darren Howell, the movie centers on a group of solders who are transported to a war of a different kind -- the fight for their lives! They end up in a terrain-shifting landscape where they have to fight warriors from different eras and histories to the death, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

To give you a hint on what to expect, producer Jim Thompson was also a producer on the Jet Li, Jason Statham time-waster War. Summit Entertainment has the rights and president of production Erik Feig (P2) and senior vice-president of production Geoff Shaevitz (The Lake House) will oversee the project. Don't cross your fingers for a modern Thunderdome.
