Stephanie Szostak To Play Ryan Reynolds' Wife In R.I.P.D.
This has not been a great summer for Ryan Reynolds. While this was supposed to be the year that he broke out and became an A-list star, Green Lantern was panned by critics and audiences and The Change Up managed to only pull in $13.5 million in its opening weekend. I do have some good news for the actor, however: a very pretty young actress is now in talks to play his wife in the upcoming R.I.P.D., according to THR.
The trade reports that French actress Stephanie Szostak is now in negotiations for the graphic novel adaptation. The story revolves around a murdered cop named Nick Walker (Reynolds) who enlists with the Rest In Peace Department in the afterlife. Teaming up with gunslinger from the old west, set to be played by Jeff Bridges, he goes on the hunt for the man that killed him. Szostak's character is able to sense Nick's presence and he tries to communicate with her so that she may help him solve the case. Kevin Bacon is also in the film, playing the central antagonist: Nick's murderer. The film is being helmed by Red director Robert Schwentke. Production is scheduled to begin this September in Boston and will be released on June 28, 2013.
While American audiences may not yet be familiar with Szostak's name or face, just give it some time. The actress is playing Matt Damon's wife in Cameron Crowe's We Bought A Zoo later this year (albeit her character dies fairly early in the story) and Rosario Dawson, Vanessa Hudgens, and Brendan Fraser in Ron Krauss' Gimmie Shelter.
