Stephen Chow Will Remake Karate Kid![]()
The Karate Kid movies seem like one of those relics of the 80s we had finally gotten over. We all remember how Hilary Swank was in one of the sequels, we were all sad when Mr. Miyagi died, but the movies seemed to have gone the way of legitimately funny National Lampoon movies and the “Where’s the beef?” lady.
Well, silly me. I had forgotten that anything can and will be remade in Hollywood, and The Karate Kid will be kicking back to life soon enough. Here’s the catch though: AsianPopcorn say sit’s directed, produced and starring Stephen Chow, who is actually, well, awesome. He’s the man who brought the world the kinetic insanity of Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer, and has the kind of physical skills Mr. Miyagi could only dream of. I’m guessing Chow will be playing the karate master, since he doesn’t really seem the part of a punk-ass American teenager. I’m intrigued by this, even more so because, weirdly enough, it was Will Smith who asked Chow to do the project. I have no idea where the Fresh Prince involved, but it’s enough nostalgia to make me want to go hunt down my slap bracelets. |
