MOVIE NEWS
Stephen Sommers Confirmed To Return As G.I. Joe 2 Director![]()
The nasty rumor circling around G.I. Joe just weeks before its release in 2008 was that director Stephen Sommers had been kicked off the film during the editing process, after the film earned some of the lowest test screening scores in the history of the studio. The rumor was roundly denied, of course, and the movie went on to make $150 domestically, but it's probably telling that, until now, Sommers wasn't confirmed to come back as the director.
Yes, until now. The Wrap is reporting that Sommers is confirmed as the director for the second film, which already has a script in from Zombieland guys Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The Wrap has learned that the studio likes the draft they've got, which could mean things will be going into production, with Sommers in charge, sooner than you were expecting. And while a script from smart guys like Rheese and Wernick might improve things, Sommers coming back gives you absolutely no reason to expect a G.I. Joe sequel any more coherent or adult-level than the first one. |
