Steve Carell Is Despicable![]()
All-star voice casts really have no effect on making animated movies even better-- Pixar's movies are great without them, thank you very much-- but it sure is fun to see all those names in one sentence. Like with today's announcement that Steve Carell will voice the lead character in Despicable Me, Universal's first 3D-animated family movie. Carell will be joined by a whole host of people I'd love to hang out with a bar: Jemaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords Danny McBride from Tropic Thunder, Julie Andrews, Will Arnett, and like half the cast of Forgetting Sarah Marshall-- Jason Segel, Jack McBrayer and Russell Brand.
The movie itself, as described by Variety, sounds pretty great as well. Carell's character is an evil villain to plots to steal the moon, egged on by his equally evil mom (Andrews); the only thing in his way is a trio of orphaned girls, whom he has to care for. Chris Meledandri, who also produced Horton Hears A Who!, is in charge of this one as well, and got the idea from his kids, who like villains in movies better than the heroes. After the huge success of The Dark Knight thanks to the Joker, you have to admit adults feel that way too. And villains played by Steve Carell? It doesn't get much better than that. |
