It was almost a year ago that we brought you news of the Amy Poehler/ Tina Fey partnership in Baby Mama, and a ton of things have happened since. On the casting front, Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine) has signed on to play a local stud who wins Fey’s heart and Maura Tierney (‘E.R.’) has turned up as Fey’s lovable sister with two kids of her own. Romany Malco (‘Weeds’) and Sigourney Weaver (Almost Heroes) have even been announced as popping up somewhere too, but one actor’s appearance seems to be surprising everyone.
According to MTV.com, Steve Martin will appear for his first supporting role in over two decades in the film. Never underestimate the power of Lorne Michaels to lure back former ‘Saturday Night Live’ cast members or in this case, a frequent host.
Baby Mama has a ton of potential. The cast is nothing if not first rate, and Tina Fey has proven her comedic genius outside of ‘SNL’ in both Mean Girls and ‘30 Rock.’ Look for this sometime in the Spring. I will be the first one standing in line, and I hope you’ll be there with me.
