You'd think given that we get some new Japanese horror remake every weekend, it wouldn't be hard to convince a studio to release a horror movie that's actually original. But Senator International, the studio behind All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, has delayed its release again. JoBlo says the intended May release has been pushed back to August.
The movie has been screening at various film festivals for the last year, and hasn't exactly gotten the best buzz. It's still apparently coming out in Europe early in the summer, but you can imagine if the buzz isn't good there either, we may see this poor movie delayed again. It's been pushed back over and over again since last July, and you've got to wonder at what point the studio would just give up and release it on DVD or put it in theaters with no promotion whatsoever.
Mandy Lane stars Amber Heard, who was part of the surprise martial arts hit Never Back Down. That should mean they'd want to cash in on her newfound fame (well, pseudo-fame) by releasing the film soon, but... well, maybe the movie's that bad? In any case, the horror fans who are still holding out hope that this movie will be good are going to have to hang on a little longer. Y'all may love Mandy Lane, but you seem to be the only ones for now.

I'm happy to report that Mandy Lane is waaaayyyy above the average slasher movie. Teens-in-peril flicks have seen very, very dark days by now, especially when they sometimes wear costumes that are friendly to the cell phone generation standards (hello, Prom Night). But this one isn’t like that.
To me, there is no such thing as ‘predictable slasher crap’ in this one—everything, every convention of the genre is given an interesting spin on, or used for a compelling reason. The complexity of its characters and the ambiguous yet entirely believable motives that plague the teenager’s rampage are all part of the frighteningly accurate depiction of the high school years.
So it's not 'bad'-- it's just kind of impossible to sell without making it look like a really stupid film, and one that's impossible to sell to teenagers at that given the R rating--which is a shame, considering the relevance of the statement it presents to them.
