Stoner auteur, David Gordon Green is set to direct an adaptation of Steve Nile’s Dark Horse graphic Novel, Freaks of the Heartland. The director used to be an indie darling but has recently diversified into stoner comedy (Pineapple Express) and now horror comic adaptations. Maybe this movie will answer the long pondered question: can you watch horror movies while stoned?
The rights to the comic have been recently been bought by Overture films. It follows a middle-American town that just so happens to be harboring a few Freaks. The comic’s protagonist has been caring for his monstrous six-year-old brother, who has been relegated to the back yard but is about to get out.
Green used to be best know for writing and directing such indie fare as All the Real Girls and Snow Angels. With movies as infamously sappy as these on his resume, how will a horror movie written, directed and produced by him look? Hopefully he will replace overwrought emotion with blood.
Original author Niles will be the executive producer with a few newbs, Peter Sattler and Geoff Davey, adapting the script.
