Simon West started out as a director with some pretty cool stuff. He made one of the few worthwhile video game movies when he took Lara Croft to the screen and Con Air was a fun action flick that took Steve Buscemi's gift for creepiness to a while new level.
Things haven't been so rosy lately. Sure, his last movie When A Stranger Calls opened at number one thanks to the American teenager's obsession with lame thrillers, but that doesn't save it from being a shoddy remake.
It would seem he's continuing down the wrong path with his latest efforts. According to Hollywood Reporter West is working with Screen Gems to be named director for Mark Smith's Vacancy. The movie is yet another horror/thriller, only this time it's a young couple stuck in remote hotel. Naturally the worst things possible begin to occur.
