The Writers Guild Of America is free to breath easily. Their ongoing strike has been given a stamp of approval from presidential candidate Barack Obama. The Illinois Senator was quoted as saying, ”The guild's demand is a test of whether media corporations are going to give writers a fair share of the wealth their work creates or continue concentrating profits in the hands of their executives.” As an hard-hearted member of the upper class, I’m staunchly opposed to the further distribution of wealth in most cases, but I also can’t bare an elongated Letterman hiatus. My mind is torn.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hilary Clinton has also expressed her empathy for the writers’ plight. She went as far as to say, ”I support the Writers Guild's pursuit of a fair contract that pay them for their work in all mediums. I hope the producers and writers will return to the bargaining table.” Preach on, sister.
It’s a delicate tightrope walk for both politicians, neither of which would like to alienate their studio head campaign donors. Thankfully, I’m not currently running for elected office; so, I can bellow out my full opinion without fear of repercussions. You can look forward to that in the coming weeks.
