I've only heard bits and pieces about the new “superhero” movie Push. Seems to me like someone has just thrown together a tweeny X-Men movie before Marvel had the chance. The only part of the project that gives me any hope is that Scottish director Paul McGuigan has a pretty reputable, if not particularly high profile, resume.
Notoriously tight-fisted Twilight distributors Summit are behind the movie but this week they released a purdy new poster which was picked up by IMP Awards. It's a nice poster and reminds me of the style of poster a similar kind of movie might have sported back in the 80s only in sketch or painting form instead of Photoshop. Extra kudos for not resorting to floating heads or Dakota Fanning's scary bug-eyes.
No amount of pretty postering, however, will answer the real question come February 6; In this time of comic book and superhero overload, do we really need another generic “outsiders with superpowers on the run from a shady government agency” movie? And if so, what will this one bring that hasn't been done before. I mean the last one we had that springs to mind was Jumper and we all know how that turned out.
Check out a bigger version of the below poster at IMP Awards.
