The film rights to Stephenie Meyer’s novel Twilight spent two years with Paramount before Summit got its hands on them and turned the hugely successful novel into a hugely successful film. It doesn’t look like it’ll take that long for Laurie Frankel’s novel Deadmail to go from book to movie. If you’ve never heard of the book before, that’s fine. It hasn’t even been published yet, but Summit has already snatched up the rights to it, with the intention of turning it into a film.

According to Deadline, Summit acquired the feature rights to Frankel’s book. Deadmail is described as “a love story about letting go,” and follows a man who invents a way to email people who have died. He ends up relying on his own invention when the woman he loves dies. Twilight Saga producers Marty Bowen and wyck Godfrey will produce the film, with Summit’s Erik Feig and Jeyun Choi overseeing the project.

While the movie is in the works, those who might be interested in reading the novel will have to wait as it won’t be published until next year. At the very least, should the movie actually get made, it’s less likely that those who do end up loving the book will have to wait years to see the movie, given the head-start Summit is getting in adapting it.
