Imagine this: a guy running through the streets of some European country, being chased by men in black suits. The man runs past a building and through an alley. As he runs, he approaches a large court with a stage in the middle. A man is talking to people, claiming to be a spiritualist. Our guy yells out, “HE’S A SHAM!” and continues running from the men in black suits. Just as he’s about to be caught, he disappears into thin air. He’s escaped again.

What does that sound like to you? Probably not a biopic of Harry Houdini, but that’s what Summit Entertainment has in mind for their upcoming biography of the famous magician, according to THR. Based on the controversial book, The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America's First Superhero, which paints Houdini as a British spy and a debunker of spiritualist cons, Summit plans to make a more action-adventure leaning movie “akin to the upcoming Sherlock Holmes.”

To execute this dirty deed, the studio has hired Jeff Nathanson to write and direct the adaptation. Nathanson is best known for penning such classics as Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Rush Hour 3. To be fair though, he also wrote Catch Me If You Can, so he does have some sort of ability for creating fun cinema. But one can only hope that the skill he showed on that movie doesn’t pull a disappearing act.
