When it was announced that Dito Montiel's The Son of No One had been picked up for distribution by Anchor Bay Entertainment at the Sundance Film Festival back in January, it was fairly surprising. Now some of you may be saying, "Eric, what the hell are you talking about? The movie stars Channing Tatum, Al Pacino, Juliette Binoche, Tracy Morgan, Katie Holmes and Ray Liotta!" It's a surprise because for as big as the cast may be, it was absolutely slammed by critics and even inspired a bunch of walk-outs. But as though the distribution deal wasn't shocking enough, apparently the movie is getting an Oscar season release.

Variety has learned that Anchor Bay plans to send The Son of No One into theaters on November 4th. The date puts the movie in direct competition with Puss in Boots, Tower Heist, A Very Harold And Kumar 3D Christmas and My Week With Marilyn. According to the report, the studio has made changes to the film since its premiere, "[tightening] some of the sequences." Both written and directed by Montiel, the project stars Tatum as Jonathan White, a cop who is assigned a cold case involving a double homicide. During his investigation he's given information that suggests that the former lead detective on the case (Pacino) tried to cover the murder up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but by making post-Sundance changes to the movie, isn't Anchor Bay admitting that it's an inferior product? I understand why a studio would want to pick up a movie with so many notable names, but from what I've heard a few edits probably aren't going to save it.
