Superman has been cast, and the timing couldn’t be more uncomfortable. Have they even buried Christopher Reeve yet? Well at least everyone is saying he’s been cast. Of course we’ve heard this before.

Right now it’s still in the “an unnamed source confirms” stage, but places like Dark Horizons and the ever popular Latin Review are reporting with almost reliable like certainty that a guy named Brandon James Routh. I’ll be waiting for the official (and supposedly impending) announcement from Warner Brothers, since right now it’s all confirmation from “unnamed sources.” We have no unnamed sources to consult here at CB, so we can only gawk at the unnamed sources being touted by everyone else.

Who the heck is Brandon James Routh? He’s the unknown Bryan Singer has been saying that he wants for the past few weeks. Really unknown. His only work of note has been as a soap actor on the daytime crapfest “One Life to Live” (where he played Seth Anderson, I’m sure that means something to at least one of you) and a few spots on the unnoticed MTV late night series “Undressed” which due to the constraints of basic cable never really featured anyone undressed but did its best to get as close as humanly possible.

Can he act? Who knows. It’s not like anyone is going to dig up old episodes of “One Life to Live” to find out. He does though seem to be about the right size. IMDB tells me that he’s 6’2”, 25 years old and hey he has darkish hair! Also, he isn’t Nick Cage which is really a great way to start things off on the right foot.

When the official announcement from the WB comes down we’ll let you know, but for now it sounds like Brandon Routh is the man.
