The state of Patrick Swayze’s health remains something of a mystery, after the rumors a few weeks ago that he may be quite literally be on death’s door. So when news broke recently that a sequel to his surfing classic Point Break was on the way, I think everyone assumed that he would be unable to be a part of it. Well hold on.
Gossip syndicator Asian News International is passing around a story which says Swayze may try to return for the sequel as Bodhi “if his health allows.” That’s somewhat noncommittal.
What’s certain is that Swayze is currently battling Pancreatic cancer. It’s unclear exactly how serious it is, reports range from near death to minor treatment needed, but even minor cancer treatment is bound to knock you on your ass for quite awhile. To me this story feels like made up rumor-mongering, but at the moment there’s no way to be certain. In a way I hope it's true, not because I want him in the movie (who really wants this sequel?), but because it might be a sign that his health situation is less serious than some have feared.
We do know that one way or another Point Break 2 does seem to be happening. Jan de Bont is directing and the story revolves mainly around new characters. That probably means even if Swayze or his former co-star Keanu Reeves were involved, it might be little more than a cameo.
