T.I. Joins Melissa McCarthy And Jason Bateman In Identity Thief
While the rapper known as T.I. does have some acting experience, namely in movies like A.T.L., American Gangster and Takers, he has now signed on for a part in a movie that should be wildly different than his previous gigs.
Deadline has learned that T.I. has accepted a part in Identity Thief, the new comedy from director Seth Gordon. The movie is about a mild-mannered family man on the rise in his industry whose life is utterly destroyed when his identity is stolen by a trainwreck of a woman. Jason Bateman will be playing the lead while Melissa McCarthy is on-board as the antagonist. Also in the supporting cast are Jon Favreau, John Cho, Clark Duke and Amanda Peet. The script was originally written by Steve Conrad and the most recent draft was done by Craig Mazin. Seth Gordon is best known for helming last summer's Horrible Bosses and the documentary King of Kong.
In the film, T.I. will be portraying a bounty hunter that is apparently chasing after both the lead character and the identity thief. At some point in the script the protagonist and antagonist are forced to team up, but the source doesn't mention the circumstances. Production has already begun on the comedy and Universal Pictures, who will be distributing the film, has given it a May 10, 2013 release date.
