Taken Director Pierre Morel May Turn Sean Penn Into An Action Star image
Liam Neeson was 56 years old when he starred in Pierre Morel's Taken and suddenly discovered a second career for himself as an action star. Now it seems that Sean Penn is banking on Morel doing the same thing for him with the upcoming Prone Gunman.

First announced back in November, the new project is based on the novel of the same name by Jean-Patrick Manchette and has Penn set to star as an international operative on the run from his own handlers. And according to a new report by The Hollywood Reporter Morel is now in talks to direct the movie. The Europe-set action film is being made by Joel Silver's Silver Pictures and Studio Canal, and is looking to start up production soon. Should things go according to plan filming will start in spring of this year - though the trade doesn't mention a possible release date.

It appeared as though Morel's career was going to take off after the release of Taken in 2008 - having managed to direct a January action flick that got a solid response from critics and made a bunch of money - but the truth is that we haven't seen much from him since. In 2010 he followed up his hit with From Paris With Love, which was a total bomb, and he hasn't made a feature film since. Prone Gunman could be his chance to not only make Sean Penn look like a legitimate action star, but also get his Hollywood career going again.
