I've been writing off the prospect of a Ouija board movie ever since it was announced, because, honestly-- of all the Hasbro game properties to turn into a movie, this has got to be the flimsiest. But the geniuses making this happen have come up with the one way to make me interested in the project, damn them. According to The LA Times, they're not just planning to make it an action adventure movie, but they've got Pierre Morel on the shortlist to direct.

Now, don't get me wrong-- I don't think this will make the movie any good. Quite the opposite actually; I'm now predicting Ouija Board: The Movie, or whatever they're going to call it, to outstrip the National Treasure franchise in pure actoin-adventure ridiculousness, incorporating the supernatural into Morel's signature interest in martial arts, gunplay and action scenes taking place in utterly unlikely places. Morel is famous for the surprise hit Taken and the slightly less successful From Paris With Love, and while I doubt a Ouija board movie would be able to incorporate quite that level of R-rated violence, I'll bet Morel is sure as hell going to try to push that envelope.

The script is being written by Lost stalwarts Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, who are also behind the forthcoming Tron: Legacy and clearly know from giving audiences what they want. And of course the whole thing is coming from Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company, which is where big, shiny, expensive, ridiculous dreams thrive. Morel is still involved in developing a new Dune movie, but the Times says there's still time for him to make that film and jump into Ouija-- provided, of course, they all do the right thing and hire the guy.
