Quentin Tarantino’s always one step ahead of himself. Now that Inglourious Basterds is out of the way he’s planning his next project, and last week he promised Kill Bill Vol. 3. In making the promise, he made it clear that it would probably be a long way off, years perhaps. Now we know why. He’s got something else up his sleeve first.

In a conference call with Variety Tarantino confirmed that he’ll do something else before he gets around to another Kill Bill. He doesn’t seem to know what that other project will be yet, but teased the idea that he’s considering “re-imagining” different genres, such as Westerns or 1930s gangster movies. Quentin Tarantino’s Outlaw Josey Wales? Sounds fun, but I’d rather see more Kill Bill.
