Tarsem Singh Offered Director's Chair For The Brothers Grimm: Snow White![]()
Following the incredible success of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland earlier this year, studios are hungry to bring back classic fairly tale characters with a dark twist. One of the first on the scene was Brett Ratner's edgy Snow White project. Recently, Natalie Portman was rumored to star in the project, but now a legitimate offer is out for someone to direct it.
Vulture reports that Tarsem Singh has been offered the director's chair. Though he is known largely for his commercials, Singh does have a limited feature career, including the Jennifer Lopez film The Cell and the upcoming Immortals with Mickey Rourke, Kellan Lutz, Frieda Pinto and John Hurt. Titled The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, the project is actually one of three Snow White pics currently at some stage of production, the two others being Universal'sSnow White and the Huntsman and Disney's Snow White and the Seven. That said, you can be sure that we won't be seeing three Snow White movies come out next year. It's not uncommon for competing studios to have similar projects in development at the same time, but rarely do they all come out the other end (exception that proves the rule: Capote vs. Infamous). Singh certainly has a style of his own and it would be interesting to see what he could do with the source material. At this point, however, all we can do is wait and see which project is able to get itself together faster. |
