People think Hollywood is all erotic parties and exotic catering, but really it’s mostly about lawsuits. Here’s another one. MGM is being sued over a movie that hasn’t happened yet. The movie in question? Terminator 4.

Halcyon Co. acquired the rights to the property earlier this year, with the intention of pushing forward on the fourth Terminator movie, picking up where T3 left off and doing it without Arnie. They’ve been in negotiations with MGM to work out a distribution deal, unfortunately negotiations recently brokedown and rather than simply seek another partner Halcyon has gone whining to the US Court system claiming MGM didn’t negotiate in good faith, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The wheres and hows of what the heck led them to this point are confusing and mostly unimportant. Just know that MGM apparently has some claim on the rights and that as long as they and Halcyon are fighting over it, well that means a longer wait till T4 shows up in theaters. It’s going to be much too busy in courts. MGM wanted to release the movie in 2009, now… don’t bet on it. Welcome to development hell Terminator 4.
