Terrence Malick Contemplating A Documentary Companion Piece To Tree Of Life![]()
Normal filmmakers release their deleted scenes, alternate takes and companion-piece videos as part of a Blu-ray or DVD edition. But Terrence Malick is anything but normal, which explains why he’s looking to release a companion documentary for his Tree of Life on IMAX.
Malick has been developing Voyage of Time, an IMAX documentary that continues to explore the birth of the universe, but Tree producers initially decided to hold off on moving ahead with the second film fearing that flooding the market with both would confuse audiences. Tree star Brad Pitt plans to narrate Time, which -- according to the L.A. Times -- would focus on “the whole of time, from the birth of the universe to its final collapse.” But will there be dinosaurs? One of the challenges will be finding time for Malick to work on Voyage of Time. The director, who doesn’t exactly crank out films, is locked into an as-yet-untitled film with Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams. And many U.S. markets haven’t even seen Tree yet, so producers of the film might want to hold off and see if there’s mainstream interest in the Cannes Film Festival winner. At the very least, it sounds interesting … if Malick ever can pull it off. |
